NPS Identity Signs come in an array of sizes, styles and materials and are characterized by distinctive colors and typography. Most identity signs are further distinguished by the use of the NPS Arrowhead logo. The sign panel colors (green bar over a warm grey field) were chosen to reflect NPS uniform colors and to relate to a range of outdoor environments. The two typefaces (NPS Rawlinson and Frutiger) mirror the NPS standard typography used on all other communications media.
The styles presented here are but a few of an infinite number possible. Varying the form and finish of a sign's supporting structure ensures that it fits comfortably into a park's natural or historic landscape. Maintaining consistency in the general appearance of the sign panel ensures that the park is perceived as part of the National Park System.
